Christmas

It's taken me a few days to recover from the rush rush of Christmas but I think I'm better now.  Actually I was feeling pretty bad over Christmas and was on an antibiotic.

We had a great Christmas!  The kids loved their gifts but most of all we have enjoyed being with family and friends.  However, we have missed seeing all those family members who live so far from us and who we couldn't see on Christmas day :(  Here are a few pics from Christmas Eve and Christmas day . . .

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the Christmas Eve service at our church.  This year we went to the 8:00 p.m. service which meant we didn't get home until almost 10:00 (which is pretty late for us).

The girls, of course, had new Christmas dresses.  I thought the girls looked so pretty :)  The cardigans, dresses and head bands came from The Children's Place.  Adrianna wore her sparkly black flats and Ava, staying true to form, wore her black Converse tennis shoes . . .

My Mom started a Christmas Eve tradition with us when we were little, we got to open one present one Christmas Eve and it was always a new set of pajamas.  I have continued that tradition with my girls.  Now that I'm thinking about it, my Mom only recently stopped giving me pj's on Christmas Eve.  Hey, when did that happen?  Mom, I want some jammies next year. Okay?

They wasted no time getting into those jammies . . .

Unbelievably, they slept until 8:30 Christmas morning!  I was up waiting for them to wake so I could get pictures of them as they came down the hall and into the living room.  I wanted to get their cute little faces as they lit up in excitement as they saw the gifts under the tree.  I kept peeking in on them and finally they woke and jumped out of bed.  Needless to say I didn't get back to my camera in time to get them coming down the hall . . .

They got books and games and clothes and a whole bunch of other stuff . . .

Ruby, our elf, had left a goodbye note along with candy canes in the tree . . .

They had so much fun going through their stockings . . .

Hair products for Ava (she got her own hair dryer from Santa now maybe she'll want to fix her hair) and they both got some new lip gloss . . .

The sparklest nail polish Santa could find for a little girl who loves glitter and sparkles more than anyone I know . . .

I was excited that they both LOVED the infinity scarfs I made for them.  Lot's of squeals from Adrianna . . .

Ava wore hers all morning . . .

They got each other a book . . .

I love this picture of Ava.  The girls were so excited to get their own DVD of Little Women  . . .

We have watched it several times already . . .

The biggest surprise from us (me and Aaron) were the butterfly wing necklaces.  Since I got mine they have been begging for one . . .

Now they finally have have one :)

My Mom got an infinity scarf from me as well, along with some other things . . .

New toaster for Mom and Mark . . .

When it came time to open the gifts from Oma and Opa (my Mom and Mark), they were in for the biggest surprise of all . . .

They got their own laptop!  See Ava's face?  That's how she sat for the longest time.  She was speechless.  Literally couldn't say anything for a few minutes . . .

This one?  Was all squeals!  Look at that face . . .

I wanted to hug that computer, too because it meant I can have mine back!  Ava can write her book on her own computer now!

New ornaments, clothes and games from Lala (Aaron's Mom) . . .

This probably has to be my favorite picture of JoAnn aka Lala.

It's a framed picture of the girls.  This is one of my favorite pictures of them.  I found the idea on pinterest of printing the picture on tissue paper then using mod podge to put it on a canvas and they turned out great!  I found these really awesome frames at Hobby Lobby which I thought complimented the picture perfectly.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  Wishing you a Happy New Year!!!

Cookie Decorating!

It's Christmas Eve!  There is so much excitement in our house!  Yesterday we (the girls, me and my Mom) spent the whole day making cookies and baking.  We made my grandmother's molasses cookies, pumpkin bread and sugar cookies.  I'm sure I'll have a post about that soon.  All those cookies were made in preparation for our cookie decorating/cookie exchange party.  We invited our friends over to decorate cookies for Santa and each family brought a fun treat to share with everyone else.  Everyone went home with an assortment of yummy stuff, decorated sugar cookies and reindeer food.

 We made over 60 sugar cookies . . .

About the same amount of Shorty Grandma's Molasses cookies . . .

The molasses cookies were for the cookie exchange.  We packaged them up in these cute chinese take out style boxes . . .

Set the table up with cookies, icing, and sprinkles . . .

And let the kids have at it!

They had fun and sampled some cookies . . .

And made big fun mess.

 Fun and Yummy!!
Now it's time to get ready for Church and dinner with family!  Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Making Reindeer Food!

We are quickly approaching Christmas!  That means we are busy and there is a lot of excitement in our house!  Whether it's making a gift, decoration, or cooking we have been working on something for Christmas everyday this week.  Or at least I have!  On our advent calendar today was "make reindeer food".  My kids love to do this and it is so simple.  We made some for our friends, too.

Here is what you need: Oatmeal, glitter or colored sugar, a bowl and baggies.

Put oatmeal in a bowl . . .

We used about 3 cups of oatmeal (made 6 baggies). . .

Add glitter . . .

Lots of it.  You can never have too much glitter!

Mix well
(glitter will sink to bottom so keep stirring) . . .

 Pour in baggies . . .

Reindeer food!

Just sprinkle in your yard so Santa's reindeer will be able to find your house!

I found this cute poem and printable on line here.

The girls can't wait to give these to their friends!

Now, just baking, baking, baking tomorrow!
